Foot drop is a medical disease that happens when the muscles that lift the foot are weak, which makes walking very difficult. Foot drop is not a diagnosis on its own; it is a symptom of a neurological, muscular, or anatomical problem that makes patients` lives much worse. The causes of this condition can be very distinct, including lesions in the central nervous system, compression of the spinal root, and injuries to the peripheral nervous system. This variety makes it necessary to use a methodical method to get an accurate diagnosis. A thorough history, a full physical exam, electrodiagnostic testing, and the use of the correct imaging modalities are all necessary for an appropriate diagnostic evaluation. Precisely identifying the anatomical location of the lesion is an essential initial step in making the diagnosis and an effective treatment plan. The purpose of this review is to discuss the etiopathogenesis of foot drop and the diagnostic evaluation procedure in light of the existing literature.
